The NLD members in Kawthaung Town accelerates their social activities on health and education according to the instruction of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, General Secretary of NLD to work together with people regardless of whether they are NLD members or not.
Activities on health
NLD members are working on health issue with contribution of NLD members and local people. NLD youth members in cooperation with other young people and volunteer youth groups, are working on health care and assistance with an intention of forming a youth network.
According to the request of a poor resident called ‘Ko Soe Naing’ from Pulone Tone Tone village, NLD members sent him to Kawthang Hospital’s OPD. He was found suffering from TB, malaria and HIV according to medical tests and admitted to the hospital. With helps from World Vision that is helping people suffering from three diseases (TB, malaria, HIV/AIDS), NLD members assist him by renovating his house and provide him micro credit for his small shop.
It is learnt that ARV drugs useful for HIV/AIDS patients can be provided only to 60 patients in Kawthaung Hospital. There are still a lot of people living with HIV/AIDS and people are dying while waiting for the medicine.
NLD youth Network for blood donation
NLD has established a network for blood donation with 10 members on 5th January and now they have about 150 members with voluntary blood donors and NLD youth members. The network helps those who could not afford to buy blood with blood and nutrition donated by well-wishers.
Blood needed for the hospital can be more provided as interest among young people in Blood donation network has been increasing. Due to weaknesses of the blood bank of the hospital that cannot properly operate, a program is designed to help those who need it when they contact the network. It can also build up cooperation among patients, hospital staffs and blood donors and about 35 patients a month can be donated blood so far. The network is now warmly welcome by people in the communities and carries on their work based on the instructions of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
