The nine members of Council of Asian Liberal and Democratic (CALD) met General Secretary of the NLD Daw Aung Suu Kyi at 4:00 pm on 31 January 2011 in her residence on University Avenue. The CALD members comprised of the chairman Professor Rajiva Wijesinha, MP from Sri Lanka and Dr. Neric Acosta, Secretary General of the CALD and other MPs such as Hon. Mu Sochua from Cambodia, Hon. Henedina Razon-Abad from Philippines’ House of Representatives, Hon. Eva Kusuma Sundari from Indonesia Parliament, Hon. Nataphol Teepsuwan, an MP from Thailand and Ms. Jayanthi Devi Balaguru from Parti Gerekan Rakyat Malaysia (PGRM). General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi discussed with the CALD members for nearly one hour. The discussion was lively and friendly. The meeting did not release any official statement.
The delegation also met the Central Executive Committee, Central Committee and Central Women Committee for nearly one and half hours. The CALD members asked for the policy and activities of the NLD. The vice-chairman U Tin Oo explained to the delegation about the various activities of the NLD to promote democracy. He talked to the delegation about winning the 1990 election with a landslide victory but the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) refused to convene parliament. He also told to the delegation the NLD boycotted the election and also call upon electorate to follow suit. The CALD members explained the various pro-democracy activities in the different countries and said that we may now establish links between our countries and the NLD.
The women members of CALD also asked the ladies of the NLD what they have been doing. The NLD ladies answered they were active in many areas in Burma.
