42nd Anniversary Independence Day Held



A ceremony to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the Independence Day was held at the headquarters of NLD at 11 a.m. on 4th January, 2012. U Tin Oo, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD leaders from NLD Central Committee, States and Divisions Committees, veteran politicians, diplomats and leaders from some alliance political parties attended the ceremony.

U Tin Oo presided the ceremony when Ko Yin Min Htwe from Mandalay youth wing conducted as a master of ceremony. At first, Chairman of ceremony U Tin Oo made opening speech and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made some remarks. Then letters sent to the ceremony were recorded. Then chairman of the ceremony concluded it with final remarks. Some entertainment continued and the ceremony ended at 12:30 p.m.

Centennial Commemoration of Journal Gyaw U Chit Maung Held at NLD HQs



A centennial commemoration of a journalist and writer U Chit Maung was held at the headquarters of NLD at 1 p.m. on 1st January, 2012. About 150 people including NLD Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, CEC member U Win Tin, U Ohn Kyaing, youth members, journalists, NLD members, grandchildren of U Chit Maung - U Thein Soe and his wife attended the ceremony.

NLD Bahan Township Chairman U Aung Myint (Phyar Pon Ni Lone Oo) conducted as the master of ceremony. Chairman of ceremony U Tin Oo made an opening speech and veteran journalist U Win Tin made some memorial remarks about Journal Gyaw U Chit Maung. Then film director and writer U Moe Thu (Maung Moe Thu) talked about memoirs of Journal Gyaw U Chit Maung. Poet Nyein Thit and Monywar Aung Shin read out some papers about U Chit Maung.

Some poems were recited dedicated to U Chit Maung by poets Ko Nay Soe Aung, Ko Nay Htet Naing, NLD youth member Ma Thu Zar Lwin, poet Yin Ni. The ceremony ended at 2 p.m.

 

 

Honoring Ceremony for Nobel Peace Prize Winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi



A ceremony organized by 10 D Nobel Students (former students who participated in students' demonstrations in support of Nobel Peace Prize in 1991) and democracy forces in honour of the 20th anniversary of the winning of Noble Peace Prize for NLD General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was held at Sardu Pariyatti School in Kyeemyindine monastery on 10th December, 2011. Before the ceremony was held, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi opened the Buddha Pitaka Library by cuting ribbon.

Ko Soe Moe Naing (Ko Me Gyi) conducted as the master of ceremony. Ko Thihathu (a) Ko Sunny explained how demonstrations in support of Nobel Peace Prize occurred in 1991. Then Shwenyawar Sayardaw (the venerable monk of Shwenyawa) made some remarks in honour of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who was awarded Nobel Peace Prize for the year 1991. Then Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made her speech. Formers students who participated in demonstrations in 1991 gave some presents to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Ko Myint Swe on behalf of former students (10 D students) read out the Letter of Peace and U Win Tin made his speech.

About 1000 people including NLD Central Executive Committee members U Win Tin, U Ohn Kyaing, Daw May Win Myint, veteran politicians, leaders from Democratic Party and National Democratic Force, leaders from students' organizations, former political prisoners and invited guests attended the ceremony. The ceremony ended at noon.

National Day Ceremony Held

 


On 20th November, 2011, at 10:00 a.m, commemoration ceremony of the 91st anniversary of the National Day was held at the headquarters of the NLD. About 1000 people including Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Central Executive Committee members, NLD women and youth wing members, veteran politicians, CRPP members, diplomats, political party leaders from alliance organizations, NLD leaders from different States and Divisions and NLD members attended the ceremony.

Ma Hnin Win Aung from NLD youth Pegu Division conducted as a master of ceremony whereas Vice Chairman U Tin Oo acted as a Chair of the ceremony. In his opening speech, U Tin Oo said that people should learn many lessons from the National Day and use these lessons effectively to bring about the naitonal reconciliation and national solidarity, and to cooperate among us to solve national crises our country is facing.

After General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi had made her speech, CEC member U Ohn Kyaing read out the statement of the NLD on the National Day. Then Daw Aung San Suu Kyi bestowed awards of the winners of 'Unsung Heros' who are Ko Thant Zaw (Thayet prison), Ma Mar Mar Oo (Bamo prison), U Sai Hla Aung (Kyauk Phyu prison) and U Withura (Myitkyina prison), to those who received on their behalf. Each winner was awarded 1,000,000 kyat (approximately 1400 US Dollar) and a medal.

National Day Cartoon Exhibition Opened



On 20th, November, 2011, a Cartoon Exhibition in commemoration of the National Day organized by youth wing of the National League for Democracy in cooperation with cartoonists was opened at the headquarters of the NLD. About 500 people including Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Central Executive Committee members, NLD women and youth wing members, cartoonists, NLD leaders from States and Divisions and invited persons attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

A poet Ko Nyein Thit from the Cartoon Exhibition Committee conducted as a master of ceremony. Vice Chairman U Tin Oo opened the ceremony by pulling down the ribbon and then he made an opening speech. Then Daw Aung San Suu Kyi signed a greeting letter for cartoonists and made some remarks on the exhibition. Central Executive Committee member U Win Tin also made a speech.

Cartoonist De De introduced participating cartoonists to the audience. U Hla Pe on behalf of cartoonists expressed some words of thanks and the ceremony ended at 10:00 a.m.
