NLD Chairperson Meets Italy Foreign Minister

 

NLD Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with Italy Foreign Minister HE Mr. Guilo Terza de Sant Gada and the team at her residence at 10 a.m. on April 26, 2012. The Foreign Minister explained his trip to Naypyidaw and meetings with the President U Thein Sein and Speakers of Houses during two-hour long discussion. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi also responded that she viewed present political reforms very cautiously as there are those who are willingly attempting to bring about reforms and those who are not very much willing to do so. Italy FM also expressed their willingness to provide assistance for Burma's development.

Later, two leaders met with reporters and journalists waiting outside the house and took questions.

NLD Youth Members Visit Poland



On invitation of the Foreign Ministry of Poland, eight members of NLD Youth visited Poland on 11th through 17th December and came back to Burma on 18th December, 2011. NLD youth team led by Ma Aye Aye Nyein (Information Department) composed of Ko Nyi Nyi Min (South Dagon Township), Ma Kyi Pyar (office -  NLD youth), Ma Thuzar Myint (teacher – NLD English Course), Ma Hnin Win Aung (Pegu Division Youth), Ma May Latti (teacher – Aung San Jarmon library), Ko Win Maw (Indakaw Township youth) and Ma Cho Cho Aung (Democracy Network).

During their visit, they met with Poland Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Krzysztof Stanowski who explained them developments of current political situation. After the meeting, the team held a press conference with reporters and journalists from Poland. Moreover, under the arrangement of Foreign Affairs Ministry, they met with organizations working for democracy and human rights, Members of Parliament, social organizations and civil society organizations, and exchanged experiences with them.

According to the programme, the team also visited Czosnow city on 13th December and met with responsible persons from the City Council and discussed about city administrative models and projects. They also visited primary and middle schools of the town. On 15th December, the team attended the European Development Day held in Warsaw and met with different organizations from European countries.

NLD Central Executive Committee Met with EU Adviser



Mr. Robert Francis Cooper, an adviser to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ms. Catherine Ashton met with NLD Central Executive Committee members and Committee Representing People's Parliament (CRPP) on 15th December, 2011 at the headquarters of the NLD.

Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, CEC members U Win Tin, U Than Tun, U Hla Pe, U Nyunt Wai, U Nyan Win, U Ohn Kyaing, U Han Thar Myint, U Win Myint, Dr. May Win Myint, CRPP Secretary U Aye Thar Aung and its members Nai Ngwe Thein, U Pu Cin Tian Htan, U Sai Saw Aung and U Soe Win attended the meeting.

They mainly discussed about the positions and activities of the National League for Democracy and their attempts for affairs of ethnic nationalities. Mr. Cooper explained his meeting with government officials at Nay Pyi Daw and his emphasis on release of political prisoners at each meeting with them.

French Ambassador at large for Human Rights Met with Former Political Prisoners



On 22nd November, 2011, French Ambassador at large for Human Rights Mr. François Zimeray together with French Ambassador for Burma Mr Thierry Mathou met with 20 former political prisoners who have been recently released, at the headquarters of the NLD.

Former political prisoners including U Kyaw Khin from Taung Gyi, U Saw Hlaing, MP elect from Indaw Township discussed about human rights violation in prisons with the French Ambassador. The French Ambassador said that human rights are also concerned with other prisoners too and ordinary people in the country. He said he would suggest government officials in Naypyidaw to provide trainings  regarding human rights for judicial departments and prison departments.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Met with UK Minister and Visited Mother's Home



National League for Democracy General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with UK's international Development Secretary Mr. Andrew Mitchel at 9:00 on 17th November, 2011. Details of discussion are not disclosed. Then Daw Aung San Suu Kyi together with the Secretary and British Ambassador Andrew Heyn visited a free elementary school named 'Mother's Home' opened at Hlaingtharyar Township

They were warmly welcome by NLD Rangoon Division Organizational Committee members led by U Saw Nai Nai and students from the school. They met with school supervisory board members, parents and students after they had looked around the school.

Then, on request of the crowd converging in front of the school, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made a brief public speech to the crowd. She said that young people need to be educated so that they could lead the country in the future. And it is also important to have happy access to education. Now there are some groups in the country working for poverty reduction. This is the cause for the whole country and all people need to help it.

They went back at 11 a.m. from the school.
