NLD Candidates Meet



NLD Election Campaign Committee and NLD candidates met at the headquarters of NLD on March 8. NLD patron U Tin Oo chaired the meeting and NLD youth member Ma Myint Myint Aye conducted as master of ceremony. After introductory speech of the Chairman of the meeting, NLD Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made an opening speech. Then candidates from respective constituencies presented their experiences in their campaign activities.

Most of the discussions were about errors in voters' list declared by the respective Election Commissions such as missing voters and extra numbers of voters but Election Commissions did not extend the dead line for correcting those wrong figures. NLD Election Campaign manager U Nyan Win responded that he would complain about that to the Union Election Commission.

NLD candidates also discussed about unjust campaign activities conducted common in respective constituencies.

65th Anniversary Union Day Held at NLD HQs


On 12th February, 2012, 65th anniversary Union Day was celebrated at the headquarters of the NLD at 11 a.m. About 1500 people including NLD patrons U Tin Oo, U Win Tin, U Than Tun, U Hla Pe, U Nyunt Wai, NLD Central Executive Committee members Chairman Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Secretariat members U Nyan Win, U Ohn Kyaing, U Han Thar Myint, CEC members Daw May Win Myint, U Win Myint, veteran politicians, 88 Generation students' leaders Ko Ko Gyi, Ko Htay Kywe, Ko Min Zeya, diplomats, invited guests and NLD members attended the ceremony. NLD patron U Tin Oo conducted as the chair of the ceremony and Ma Kyi Pyar conducted as the master of ceremony.

Following the opening speech of the chair of the ceremony, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made a speech. Then NLD Shan State member U Sai Yee recited the statement of the 65th Anniversary Union Day. Then the master of ceremony declared the distribution plan of the profits extracted from Fund Raising Fair for Union Nationalities. After the final remarks of the chair of the ceremony, it ended at noon.

National League for Democracy's New Signboard Launched



NLD headquarters launched a new signboard at 12:20 p.m. on 9th January 2012. NLD election campaign head U Tin Oo, NLD leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and members of CEC, leaders from NLD States and Divisions attended the meeting. U Tin Oo and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi cut ribbon to open the NLD's signboard.

UK Foreign Minister Met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

British Foreign Secretary William Hague visited Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's residence and met with her on 6th January at 10:00 a.m. Consequently, he also met and discussed with other NLD leaders and ethnic leaders. NLD leaders such as U Tin Oo, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Win Tin, U Than Tun, U Hla Pe, U Nyunt Pe, U Nyan Win, U Ohn Kyaing, U Han Thar Myint, U Win Myint and Dr. Daw May Win Myint and ethnic leaders such as U Aye Thar Aung, U Pu Cin Tian Htan, U Sai Saw Aung, U Naing Ngwe Thein, U Soe Win and U Thein Pe attended the meeting with the foreign secretary.

Foreign secretary said that he was glad to have a chance to meet with them and was watching over developments in Burma. British government would continue assistance that would accelerate the democratic reform. Then foreign secretary handed over the special letter from UK's Prime Minister to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Then U Tin Oo explained NLD's attempts for democratic changes and improvements in human rights in the country. Ethnic leaders such as U Aye Thar Aung, U Pu Cin Tian Htan, U Sai Saw Aung discussed about some ethnic affairs and problems. The meeting ended at 11:30.

After the meeting, British Foreign Minister and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with reporters and took their questions.

42nd Anniversary Independence Day Held



A ceremony to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the Independence Day was held at the headquarters of NLD at 11 a.m. on 4th January, 2012. U Tin Oo, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD leaders from NLD Central Committee, States and Divisions Committees, veteran politicians, diplomats and leaders from some alliance political parties attended the ceremony.

U Tin Oo presided the ceremony when Ko Yin Min Htwe from Mandalay youth wing conducted as a master of ceremony. At first, Chairman of ceremony U Tin Oo made opening speech and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi made some remarks. Then letters sent to the ceremony were recorded. Then chairman of the ceremony concluded it with final remarks. Some entertainment continued and the ceremony ended at 12:30 p.m.
