Workshop on Women and Politics Held at NLD headquarters

On 16th November, 2011, a workshop about women and politics organized by women's caucus of the CALD was held at the headquarters of the National League for Democracy. About 50 women including women wing members from different States and Divisions and women wing of the headquarters attended the workshop. Ms. Mu Sochua from Women Caucus of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) organized and facilitated the workshop. In the workshop, issues such as human rights violation, women rights, human trafikking and how to participate into the social aid activities were discussed. The night before the workshop, a welcoming dinner was held at the headquarters of the NLD.

 

Workshop on Women and Politics Ends



Closing ceremony of the workshop on women and politics that started on 15th November was held at the headquarters of the NLD. NLD Vice Chairman U Tin Oo and Central Executive Committee members, CALD Women's Caucas Chairwoman Ms. Mu Sochua and members, participants of the workshop attended the closing ceremony. Ma Kyi Pyar from NLD youth wing conducted as a master of the ceremony.

Vice Charman U Tin Oo made some remarks for the workshop. Then Mu Sochua also made some congratulatory remarks to all participants. Workshop completion certificates were handed to participants by U Tin Oo, Ms. Mu Sochua and CALD members, Dr. May Win Myint, U Win Htein and Information Department deputy chief U Kyi Toe. On behalf of workshop participants, Ma Aye Nyein Moe and Ma La Minn Mo Mo returned words of thanks to the workshop organizers and facilitators. Then NLD women wing provided some gifts to workshop facilitators.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi visited traditional weaving workshop for women



NLD General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi together with CEC members U Win Tin and U Ohn Kyaing visited a workshop for women wing members about Karen traditional weaving made at the Pyinnya Panchan hall in Sanchaung Township, Rangoon on 22nd October 2011. Daw May Win Myint, a CEC member and in charge of women wing, who is responsible for the workshop explained activities of the workshop that would take 10 days from 13th to 22nd October, 2011. 10 members of NLD women wing are attending the workshop.

Women Capacity Building Workshop opened



A workshop for capacity building of women organized by NLD women wing was opened at an office of Pyinnya Pantaing  in Sanchaung Township on 8th October, 2011. NLD Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, NLD Central Executive Committee member U Han Thar Myint and Daw May Win Myint attended the opening ceremony.

Following U Tin Oo's opening words, U Han Thar Myint representing NLD Education Committee made some remarks. Then Daw May Win Myint and Daw Suu Suu Lwin, a director of Pyinnya Pantaing explained purposes of the workshop.

28 women from NLD's 14 States and Division attended the 3-day workshop. The trainees will share their experience again at their respective States or Divisions.

Micro-credit scheme in Hlaingtharyar Township



A micro-credit scheme organized and implemented by NLD Women Wing extended to Hlaingtharyar Township. On 2nd October 2011, 50 women were borrowed 20,000 kyat (approximately 30 USD) for each of them. Hlaingtharyar is the third Township after Bahan and South Okkalarpa Township.
