NLD General Secretary Comforts Fire Victims



NLD vice chairman U Tin Oo, General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the team visited the temporary refuge of fire victims in Mingalartaungnyut Township, Rangoon and comforted them. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with venerable Sayarday U Pyinnyanda who accepted victims at his monastery and explained the NLD's plan to assist victims of fire. And the team greeted and encouraged victims in the temporary camp. There are about 1160 victims in the camp.

NLD Helps Flash Flood Victims in Magwe Division



Starting from 26th November, a team led by NLD CEC member U Ohn Kyaing in cooperation with NLD Magwe Division Organizational Committee members started their activities to help victims of flash flood occurred in Pakkoku, Pauk, Sate Phyu and Myaing Township in Magwe Division on 17th through 19th November.

U Ohn Kyaing, Pakkoku NLD Organizational Committee member U Pike Ko, NLD Information Department member Ko Aye Min Soe arrived at Pakkoku Township on 26th November. They met with Magwe NLD Organizational Committee member U Hlaing Aye, Dr. Kyi Min, U Myint Thein (Chauk), Dr. Kyaw Ngwe and U Aung Khin Win at the house of U Hlaing Aye.

About 400 houses in ward no. (2) and (3) in Pakkoku town were swept away by flash flood causing 120 deaths. About 550 households were taking refuge at three monasteries in town. Flash flood hit 31 villages in Pauk Township causing 60 deaths and 20000 refugees. It also hit 29 villages in Sake Phyu Township causing 20 deaths and 30000 refugees. The team also discussed about difficulties to reach the affected areas and decided to donate victims in Pakkoku on 26th and in Pauk on 27th respectively with donation from General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Magwe Division.

At 2 p.m., the team set off their trip to Pakkoku and reached to Mattataung monastery, Maha Vithutarama monastery and Mogoke monastery where victims are taking refuge. The team directly donated 4 pyi (approximately 2.6 kg) of rice and 3000 kyat (approximately 4 US Dollar) to each of 551 households.

On 27th November, the team continued their trip to Thamartaung village and Aungchanthar village in Pauk Township and donated 4 pyi (approximately 2.6 kg) of rice and 7 instant noodles packages to each of 126 households sheltering at the monastery. And they also donated 30000 kyat (approximately 40 US Dollar) to each of 17 households whose houses were totally swept away or destroyed by the flood. Then the team went to a monastery in Yepyar village where refugees from Sinthay village in Pauk Township were staying and donated them instant noodle packages.

On 29th November, another team led by NLD Magwe Division Organizational Committee member U Hlaing Aye and U Pike Ko donated food and money to victims of flash flood in Myaing Township.

It was the worst flash flood in 50 years occurred in Magwe Division caused by rapid flow of heavy rain water to the downstream. It caused a great deal of damages and is now demanding emergency assistance such as food, materials and money. Well-wishers donated money, clothes, blankets and mosquito nets everyday to the headquarters of the NLD. It is reported that NLD collected all these materials and sent them to U Hlaing Aye and Dr. Kyi Minn who are distributing these materials to the most needed areas.







NLD helps victims of flood in Magwe Division


A team led by NLD CEC member U Ohn Kyaing left for Pakkoku on 25th October to help about 40,000 victims in Pakkoku, Pauk and Satephyu townships of a flash and flood after a heavy rain hit Pakkoku district, Magwe Division on 19th October 2011. The team together with Magwe Division NLD Organizational Committee member U Hlaing Aye, Dr. Kyi Minn, U Myint Thein and U Tar will distribute some materials needed for emergency situation.

Mingalardon NLD donated rice bags for flood victims in Pegu



On 16th August, 2011, NLD Mingalardon Township Committee Chairman U Kyaw Shwe, Secretary U Hla Myint, Committee member Daw Aye Nwe and Ko Aye Min Soe from Youth wing went to refugee camp in Kyauk Kyeesuu quarter, Pegu city and donated 16 bags of rice and 5 packages of instant noodle. There are about 1473 refugees taking shelter at the temporary camp.

NLD supported families of fishermen lost in the storm


The National League for Democracy continued to assist families of fishermen lost in a storm that hit Irrawaddy offshore in March. The team consisting NLD CEC member U Ohn Kyaing, CC member U Kyi Win, Dr. Myo Nyunt, U Min Swe, U Aung Myint (Pyapon Ni Lone Oo) and Ko Aye Min Soe from Information Department went to Dedaye and Pyapon Township and donated some money for 44 families.

The team led by U Ohn Kyaing met with 50 families at the office of NLD and explained the intention of the trip which was made by instruction of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Then U Myo Nyunt, a Central Committee member gave ten thousand kyat for each family without children and one thousand and five hundred kyat for each family with children. The team visited Myasithar monastery in Achalay village tract of the Pyapon Township and met with 90 family members and donated some money to the victims.
